Kingston University wins the 2011 University Trading Challenge

(London, UK) – Kingston University’s student team finished first out of 20 teams competing in the University Trading Challenge in London on December 2nd, 2011. The Kingston Team was part of the 80 students that participated in a financial trading completion that started November 4th and concluded at the final day event hosted at Coventry University’s London Campus.

University of Brighton’s team finished second with City University London finishing third in this highly competitive competition.

The University Trading Challenge required the student teams to tackle three distinct challenges and demonstrate their aptitude for consistently selecting and executing trading strategies. All teams used simulated trading software from CapitalWave Inc. Each team also prepared and presented a client pitch with risk analysis to a Judging Panel of industry veterans. Steve Bowles, from International Treasury Services said, “Some of these student teams could be immediately hired by financial firms. They are that good”.

Terry Gamell, Director of International Treasury Services added, “The London University Trading Challenge was an exciting and very competitive day and it was good to see students from some of the leading finance universities taking part and enjoying the day. The combination of the three challenges the students had to undertake demonstrated the qualities of finance and business leadership that will serve them well in their careers and leaves one with tremendous confidence in the next generation of bankers and financiers.”

The University Trading Challenge is a realistic capital market trading competition designed for both Undergraduate and Graduate students seeking degrees in finance, economics, mathematics and business.
