The energy markets are hugely important to the global economy.  The challenges that many students have is gaining experience in trading these securities as well as structuring advise and strategies.  This competition will be held in Houston Texas in January 2014.

This competition will be comprised of two distinct challenges:

1) Short Term Trading Challenge.  The competitors will participate in two short term (2 hours each) competitions.  These trading competitions will have the students trade a number of different energy contracts with two different economic outcomes.  While the students will trade individually, they will work as a team (of 4) with their collective results compiled for the competition.

2) Presentation Challenge.  The student teams will be given two (2) case-studies that will be energy related (one requiring the use of options for the solution – and the other requiring the use of swaps for the solution).  The students will be required to present their solutions in-front of industry professionals who will judge them on content, creativity and presentation.

You are welcome to return to this page for more information as the competition is finalized.
